Please join us for the very first gathering of the Blazer Book Club at UAB Libraries!

Each semester we will choose a popular fiction or non-fiction book to read and discuss. Our first selection is “Death of the Author” by Nnedi Okorafor, a New York Times Bestselling writer of science fiction and fantasy both for children and adults. Described as a book within a book, Death’s story finds the main character Zelu’s life spiraling as a result of being fired from her university job, as well as rejected by publishers.  In response to these setbacks Zelu impulsively writes “Rusted Robots”, a science fiction epic where androids and AI inhabit a post-apocalyptic Nigeria. What follows is a tale of love and loss, fame and infamy, of extraordinary events in one world, and another. As Zelu's life evolves, the lines between fiction and reality begin to blur.
